English Certificate

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

The NMC accepts IELTS Academic at a minimum level of 7 in Speaking/Listening/Reading and 6.5 in Writing. NMC candidates do not need to select the UKVI version. Learn more at nmc.org.uk.

The HCPC accepts IELTS (either General or Academic) with a minimum 7.0 with no element below 6.5.* For HCPC candidates, we recommend you take the UKVI version to help expedite immigration processing. Learn more at hcpc-uk.org.

Occupational English Test (OET)

The NMC accepts OET at a level of B (350-440) in Speaking/Listening/Reading and C+ (300-340) in Writing. Learn more at nmc.org.uk.

The HCPC accepts OET with a "comparability statement" from the test provider. Learn more at hcpc-uk.org.

For HCPC Candidates, the OET exam is not accepted by the UKVI, so HCPC candidates will also need to take the PTE exam or IELTS UKVI exam. Please speak to your NEU Recruitment Consultant for more details.

Pearson Test of English (PET)

The PTE is only accepted by UKVI, and can not be used as proof of English competency for either the NMC or HCPC.

NEU Professionals will only accept this exam for HCPC candidates who did not select the UKVI version of the IELTS exam, or if candidates took the TOEFL or OET exam.

The UKVI required Secure English Language Test (SELT) version of the PTE.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

The NMC does not accept the TOEFL exam as proof of English competency. Learn more at nmc.org.uk.

The HCPC accepts TOEFL with a minimum score of 100/120.*

For HCPC Candidates, TOEFL exam is not accepted by the UKVI, so HCPC candidates will also need to take the PTE exam or IELTS UKVI exam. Please speak to your NEU Recruitment Consultant for more details.

British Council EnglishScore

NEU Professionals only accepts EnglishScore to help us assess your current level of English. It can not be used by NMC, HCPC, or UKVI as proof of English competency.
