Updated NMC English Language Requirements

At the NMC Annual Meeting, We Were There!

On September 28, 2022, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) met to discuss English language requirements for overseas nurses. Our very own NEU project manager, Sandira, attended the NMC meeting in-person. You can view Sandira’s video on our NEU Nurses Facebook Page.

We are pleased to announce that the Nursing and Midwifery Council – NMC has approved the changes to their English language requirements, to be implemented in January 2023. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

IELTS/OET Clubbing:

  • NMC has accepted standardised minimum scores when combining test scores, for example they will now accept a score of 6.0 in IELTS or C in OET in writing subtest only when clubbing scores.
  • The period required for combining test scores has extended from six to 12 months.

These accepted Proposals will come into effect as from January 2023.

Here is the text from the News Article on the NMC’s website:

After carefully considering the consultation responses, firstly weโ€™re proposing to:

  • standardise the minimum scores we accept when combining test scores, and extend the period for combining test scores from six to 12 months.

Secondly, weโ€™re proposing to:

  • enable employers to provide supporting evidence of English language proficiency.
We plan to accept supporting evidence where an applicant has:
  • trained in English in a country where English is not a majority spoken language; or
narrowly missed passing the English language test.
