Specialist Language Courses (SLC)
Language education matters. In a globalised world, knowing languages and using them effectively enables people to work and study in other countries, to experience and understand other cultures, to build and join networks, make new friendships and fall in love across borders.
This English for Nurses course teaches you the English you need to study and work in an English-speaking healthcare environment, attend conferences and seminars, and keep up with nursing journals and research written in English.
The course covers a wide range of essential care, from introducing yourself to discussing pain, pressure area care, breathing difficulties, infection control, falls and injuries, to administering medications, IV therapy, post-operative and end-of-life care. The units cover medical terminology, patient and staff interactions, hospital language and documents, and much more. In addition, at the end of each unit there is a quiz to make sure you have understood the most important language items.
During the course, you study all aspects of nursing language, including vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and functional skills. There is a very wide range of activities, including interactive recording where you record and listen to yourself in conversation with a patient. The program is strongly practical and is regularly reviewed so the content remains relevant and up to date.
