NEU PROFESSIONALS WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR ‘BEST INTERNATIONAL RECRUITMENT EXPERIENCE’

NEU Professionals were delighted to be announced as the overall winner for Best International Recruitment Experience, alongside cherished client, North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2024.

On Thursday 28 November, Nursing Times brought together over 700 professionals from across the health and social care community to highlight nursing’s workforce achievements. The Nursing Times Workforce Awards are an annual celebration of the nurses, midwives and employers making a real difference in key areas such as staff recruitment, retention, wellbeing and inclusion.

Finalists and members of the nursing community attended a glittering awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London where the winners of 18 categories were revealed, covering individuals, teams and employers. There were deserving winners from organisations across the UK.

From over 500 entries, the judges recognised NEU Professionals and NELFT as the clear winners in the category of ‘Best International Recruitment Experience’. The judges praised NEU Professionals with the following comments, “The judges found this project to be a groundbreaking and unique social responsibility initiative that enhanced mental health capacity and services in the countries from which it recruits nurses, ensuring long-term sustainability. The project’s engagement with nursing councils and a diaspora of networks from various cultural backgrounds, further enriching its impact. The celebration of diversity and culture is particularly commendable, as is the sharing of best practices in the UK. A culturally sensitive and innovative approach!”

NEU Professionals takes a unique approach to International Recruitment, prioritising ethical and sustainable pathways to give back within sourcing countries. An example is the work NEU has done with a leading healthcare college in Botswana, supporting with the opening of a new Nursing campus to increase capacity for nurse training within the country. Furthermore, NEU signed a partnership to assist the aims of the Botswana Nurses Union, leading to improvements in working conditions, postgraduate training and employment for Botswana nurses.

Earlier this year (April 2024) NEU Professionals were invited by the Ministry of Labour in Uzbekistan to lead a delegation, hold recruitment conferences and engage in high-level discussions about the mobilisation of nurses and other healthcare professionals from Uzbekistan to the UK. The first Uzbek Nurses are now in the process of registering with UK NMC and applying for interviews.

Via these initiatives and our global network of partners, NEU is able to support NHS and private organisations to fill challenging vacancies and ensure that each individual recruited has an exceptional recruitment experience, with extra assistance from organisations in their home country. These pathways also support ongoing retention, as there is an increased cultural understanding and an escalation process for concerns, if the new recruits have any challenges.

NEU is aware of the financial challenges that many NHS Trusts are experiencing at the moment related to recruitment, hence we have developed courses (in conjunction with IR Academy) to offer our knowledge and skills in managing recruitment projects, collaborative working and pastoral care.
