What do I need to become a Dentist in the U.K?

All doctors must have registration with a licence with the General Medical Council (GMC) to legally practise medicine and undertake activities restricted by law to doctors in the United Kingdom. NEU Professionals will support you with your registration process so you do not need to be registered before sending us your application. However it’s recommended that you learn a little about the General Dental Council and their requirements beforehand (it will certainly give you brownie points! 😉)

The register

The licence to practise is issued by the General Medical Council (GMC) and applies to all doctors in the UK regardless of whether they are working in the NHS or independent sector, either on a full or part time, permanent or locum basis. It also applies to all levels of registration, whether provisional, full or on the specialist or general practitioner (GP) register.

Doctors who have never been registered with the GMC will have to apply for registration with a licence to practise. They will not be able to apply for registration without a licence. In addition, international medical graduates (IMGs) will be required to demonstrate their medical knowledge and skills, and all applicants may have to demonstrate they are competent in using the English language before they are registered. NHS Employers has published a helpful guide for IMGs on its website.

NEU Professionals Limited is an International Healthcare Recruitment Agency headquartered in London, United Kingdom.

We embrace and champion the values of ethical recruitment outlined in the NHS Code of Practice for International Recruitment and the World Health Organisation guidelines. This means that you can be reassured of the following:

  • The roles you will be offered will deliver extensive opportunities for training, education and enhancement of your clinical skills.
  • We will always be fully transparent with you and disclose all of the information you need about the Trust, vacancy you are applying for, geographical area and costs of living to enable you to make an informed choice.
  • You will have a nominated Recruitment Consultant who will look after you throughout every stage of the recruitment/registration process, the entire relocation, your cultural adaptation journey and beyond.
