Depending on your situation, you may not be required to present an English language certificate when registering with the NMC. Before sending your application, check that you are exempt from this requirement or have other evidence to present. You may be exempt from showing proof of passing an English language test if:

You are a pre-registration nurse, midwife or nursing associate qualification taught and examined in English.
Recent practice of at least one year in a majority English-speaking country.

What do I need to become a Social Worker in the U.K?

If you wish to start your journey as a Social Worker in the United Kingdom you must first register with Social Work England. NEU Professionals will support you with your registration process so you do not need to be registered before sending us your application. However it’s recommended that you learn a little about Social Work England and their requirements beforehand (it will certainly give you brownie points! 😉)

Below you can find a list of all essential requirements and steps to follow for your application with NEU Professionals to be successful:

Step 1

Create an account on Social Work England

Step 2

Check if your qualification is on the list provided on the following link

*If your qualification does not appear on the list provided, please start compiling the following documents:

  1. A course information form (your university will complete and stamp this)
  2. A letter explaining how your education training and experience meets our professional standards.

Please ensure you have all requirements specified on pre-application checklist before you make a start.

Step 3

If you are from a country officially considered as English speaking by Social Work England, you will be exempt of showing an English certificate. Otherwise, you must have an Academic IELTS certificate at an average score of 7.

Step 4

Liaise with your allocated NEU Recruitment Consultant and prepare necessary documentation, so it’s ready to proceed with the registration.

Step 5

Proceed to pay the Scrutiny Fee (£495)

Step 6


Wait for 60 working days for your registration to be approved.

Please bare in mind that the 60 days not include Saturdays, Sundays or bank hollidays.
