NELFT provides an extensive range of integrated community and mental health services for people living in the London boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and Waltham Forest and community health services for people living in the south west Essex areas of Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock. They provide an Emotional Wellbeing Mental Health Service for children and young people across the whole of Essex. They are the provider of all age eating disorder services and child and adolescent mental health services across Kent and Medway.

Formal training:

Upon arrival in the UK, you will undertake a comprehensive OSCE training course as part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration process, culminating in an exam. It is essential that you pass the exam (you will have a maximum of 3 attempts) in order to qualify as an NME-registered nurse. Once this has happened, you will attend the standard NHS induction course and, following this, be given further support and mentoring within your ward or area of specialty.

If you are a Registered Nurse with experience in Mental Health/Psychiatric or Learning Disability care you are not currently required to pass your English Language exam for us to accept your initial application with NELFT. You will however need to prove that you have a current English Language level of B2 and you will be offered free support from NEU Professionals in the shape of free webinars or courses with our English Training Specialists Jacqueline Mahugu and Angelique West. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent degree from an accredited university or nursing school leading to registration with your local nursing council
  • 2 years minimum post-graduate working experience (academic internships not considered)
  • Proof of English language proficiency in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s requirements.
  • NMC test of competence in Learning Disability (RNLD) – Computer Based Test (CBT)
