Southern District Health Board

Southern Health District Health Board

This Health Board is responsible for planning, funding and providing all publicly funded health care services for the Southern district.

They offer their healthcare services at their hospitals in Dunedin, Wakari (Dunedin), Invercargill and Queenstown.

Southern DHB is governed by board that includes elected members and members appointed by the Minister of Health. Its operations are led by an Executive Leadership Team and it is advised by a Clinical Council, as well as the other advisory bodies of the Southern Health system.

More than 3,500 patients and colleagues developed the values and behaviours that describe how Southern DHB expects everyone who works there to behave with others – patients, whānau, colleagues, providers and other organisations. They apply to everyone, in every role or level.

Location and lifestyle

Dunedin is New Zealand’s sixth most populous city and is located on the east coast of the Southern Island. Its urban area lies on the central-eastern coast of Otago, surrounding the head of Otago Harbour, and the harbour and hills around Dunedin are the remnants of an extinct volcano. The city suburbs extend out into the surrounding valleys and hills, onto the isthmus of the Otago Peninsula, and along the shores of the Otago Harbour and the Pacific Ocean.
