Their reputation for strong performance is important in delivering the best care for their patients and high quality clinical services.

The vision of the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) is to “be the best cardiothoracic intergrated healthcare organisation.”  LHCH became the first specialist trust in the UK to be rated “Outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September 2016.  They received this rating again in July 2019, only 4 other health care providers in the UK have received this rating twice. Over the last 14 years LHCH has been rated top in the country for “Overall Patient Experience” in the CQC National Inpatient Survey 9 times. In 2012 they also were named “Provider of the Year” in the Health Service Journal Awards.
LHCH is the largest stand alone cardiac unit in the UK and offer a wide range of cardiac and thoracic services. Including cardiology services, cardiothoracic and aortic surgery, management of patients with congenital heart disease amongst other services.

There are 15 heart surgeons on staff at LHCH which enables the trust to provide 24 hour 7 days a week emergency cardiac surgery to patients 365 days of the year. There have 6 cardiac operating theatres meaning the trust can complete 12 planned/urgent heart operations 5 days a week and weekends if required.

Due to the highly specialised services provided by the hospital they are increasingly receiving referrals from outside their catchment area.  The catchment area of LHCH is 2.8million people and spans Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
