Recruitment

The Recruitment Process

At NEU professionals we fully understand that moving to a different country can be a very exciting but also challenging process.

The process of recruitment in Australia and New Zealand is somewhat different from what you might be used to in the U.K. Upon successfully passing the interview your future employer will require other documents (i.e. police checks) and references from the most recent employers. Once they are satisfied with the above you will be required to complete some standard online forms and only at that stage you will be issued an Offer of Employment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The process of registering with the appropriate regulatory body in NZ may take from 3-6 months or even longer depending on how quickly you can collect and submit the required evidence. We recommend you start the process at the earliest opportunity – if you are serious about moving to NZ there is no disadvantage to commencing the registration even before your interview. Some Districts within Health NZ will prefer to wait until you have secured registration, or at least have proof that it has been started before they will consider an interview.

Please visit the Nursing Council of New Zealand or the Midwifery Council of New Zealand for more information on joining the register as an international nurse/midwife.

In terms of Visa application, you would be advised to select the Accredited Employer’s Work Visa AEWV, although there is also a route to a residency visa.

You can find out more about the current Skilled migrant Visa application here.

If you are a Midwife from the United States of Canada

There is more than one route to becoming a midwife in the US, and the midwifery practice is slightly different to that of NZ. For this reason, it takes longer to assess educational background, experience, and any subsequent training. There may also be some additional costs incurred in order to acquire your registration certificate.

If you have any enquiries regarding the registration process do not hesitate to contact us on applynz@neuprofessionals.com or simply get in touch with the NZCM directly at: info@midwiferycouncil.health.nz.

If you are a Midwife from the United Kingdom or Ireland

UK & NZ midwifery degrees are similar, and therefore the NZ registration is a fairly straightforward process. It can be completed quite quickly if all the relevant documents are sent promptly and correctly.

To begin the nursing registration process for New Zealand, you must first submit your documents to CGFNS, a US-based company that will verify your credentials. Any nurse wishing to work in New Zealand must go through this process, the only exception is for nurses who are registered in Australia.

Once this report is completed, you should then authorise that to be sent to the New Zealand Nursing Council in order to begin the registration.
